Why is the FIFA trophy so important?

Possibly, the trophy itself is so famous because this is the most passionate fan base of any sport in the world. The Canadian hockey fans, the American 'football' rugby style fans, the British cricket fans; they all pale in comparison with the outrageous and often passionately aggressive soccer or world football fan. It is an adrenalin rush, just to watch an international soccer match on TV. Can anyone even imagine being there? OMG! That gorgeous little muscle of gold seems an integral part of the whole emotional explosion. Fans and players and TV celebs are often seen brandishing the trophy or a replica of the trophy, high above their head, or under one arm, but clutched in a power fist, white knuckled in the middle of complete soccer chaos. The trophy shines like a beacon, calling its followers to celebrate their inner wild thing and just let it ALL out, right there!

Where can I buy a replica trophy?

Everyone wants to have their own copy or replica of the FIFA trophy and there are several different sizes and qualities of the fan cup. They are made in full size or 1:1 scale, a medium or 1:2 scale and a small which is a 1:16 scale. There are also key chains, jewelery, posters, cards, pins, stickers, stamps and t-shirts; all dedicated to the celebration of the World Cup Football Trophy.

What is the history of the FIFA world Cup Trophy?

The FIFA World Cup Soccer Trophy we are familiar with today, was first commissioned in 1974, after the first version was permanently awarded to Brazil for winning the World Cup three times. This was stipulated by Jules Rimet. It was later stolen and never recovered for the final time in 1983 from the bullet proof display case at the Brazilian Football Confederation headquarters.

Who designed the FIFA cup we see today?

The contemporary version the FIFA trophy was designed by Italian artist Silvio Gazzaniga. His design was chosen from among 53, submitted from seven countries.

What is the Soccer Cup made of?
The trophy itself is made of solid gold (18 karat)!!! The base of the trophy has two matched bands of beautiful green malachite stone, which though not related to this trophy, interestingly enough this same stone is a commonly used to make African jewelry.
Check out the photo below of a piece of polished malachite stone.
Malachite stone used to make World Cup Trophy Bands
It must have been a skilled sculptor that made the perfectly rounded bands of malachite on the base of the trophy.
The whole World cup trophy, base included, stands 36.5 cm high and weighs over 13 lb or 6.2 kg

Artistic Review of the FIFA Trophy
The conceptual imagery of the sculpture is that of two athletes/warriors/humans holding an enormous golden earth up high in their upward straining and very muscular arms. The overall expression of this sculpture is one of powerful global strength, flexed and ready to uncoil. This artistic drama of the 'Jules Rimet', is what makes it such a work of art and not just your every day bowling trophy. This trophy is in motion before anyone even holds it in a crowd of hysterical fans. It has its' very own whirlwind and rises to the occasion along with soccer fans 'going NUTS' everywhere!

The actual trophy is not given to the winning soccer team these days, as the first one was. Instead, each winning team receives a gold plated replica of the trophy and the team name is engraved onto the very bottom, underside of the base plate. There have been 9 winning team names engraved so far, with the real estate on the bottom of that gold FIFA Cup expected to max out by 2039.
IMO: It would be very cool to see an African teams name on that trophy!
